So, if one can flash whenever one wants to,

Wouldn't you advise a noob flasher to wait until there are
2.2 roms that are clear of all bugs and run well?

I guess my next question would be to ask if
there are going to be 2.2 fascinate roms that are fully debugged?

Yes, for a noob - definitely wait until the ROM is less buggy, has fewer crashes, etc. He is working hard to perfect it, but without the 'real' Fascinate 2.2 code it is tough to work out all of the kinks quickly.

Once 2.2 is released (if ever) ROMs for the Fascinate should be everywhere. Right now there are only two around. Both buggy. However, once they fix the issues I'm sure others will be able to borrow their work and make ROMs with 2.2 so flashers (haha) have a larger selection to choose from. By that time, lets hope the real 2.2 is out though.

I'm still on the 2.2 ROM, and I'm getting excited to have it perfected. At least I can watch vids though! Lol

Right.
Well i managed to flash the DL09 firmware upgrade
for my fascinate. The stupid OTA took way too long,
so I did it my self. Much easier...

Anyway, if you hear/find any full improvements for that 2.2 rom,
do inform!!

By the way, if i were to root my phone, what exactly does that do, or
allow me to do?

Rooting gives you 'super access' or administrator rights to your phone. You can get rid of the garbage bloatware, flash roms, add themes and a lot more fun stuff.

There is actually HUGE news for us Fascinators. Punk_kaos and jt just got ahold of the 2.2 kernel. What does that mean? ...holy crap we should have fully functional 2.2 ROMS for our Fascinates in the next few weeks!! Basically, they were only waiting for the kernel.

Okay so rooting allows you to take that BS off...
...but by rooting it, does it automatically change everything around
without me doing so.?

And holy shit, that's friken awesome. I'm psyched. I'm not really
aware of the changes/benefits for upgrading to froyo.

No, once you root nothing will look different or change automatically on your phone. You will still have the look and feel of being on a stock phone.

I will post a link to the benefits of 2.2 in a few minutes.

and the proper kernels?

To get the REAL 2.2 update from Verizon/Samsung you need to be UNrooted. So, if you root tonight and the 2.2 magically arrives tomorrow then you will have to unroot to get the OTA update.

There is a guide to unroot around here somewhere. Not too hard to do.

Keep an eye on that xda thread though. When punk_kaos or jt  update their posts, it won't be a secret.

Just remember that punk_kaos uses a Voodoo kernel. Jt does not. As a noob, you should stay away from Voodoo kernels until you feel comfortable enough with flashing. Voodoo can be tricky!

To flash these guy's roms/kernels you need to be rooted.

Ah okay, so basically....
...if i want to get the OTA 2.2(which will never come for the fascinate -_-)
then i must be unrooted.
BUt when these guys come out with their roms i need to
be rooted!
I think i can handle that lol.
