Just purchased the Fascinate 2 days ago. I'm new to androids and having been searching around for help updating my phone to froyo. My phone will not update OTA. I get server unavailable Code 500 when checking status.

Can someone help me update my phone manually with clear steps without throwing around jargons and firmware versions as if I had the phone for a year. The phone is brand new and has not been rooted, updated etc. It's a fresh phone that will not update over the air.

I'm running:

Model number: SCH-I500
Firmware version: 2.1-update1
Baseband version: S:I500.04 V.DI01
Kernel version: 2.6.29
Build number
SCH-I500.DI01

I guess no one is having problems with their phones updating besides me. How about an easy question: Do you have to actually have a verizon plan to actually receive the froyo update  OTA?

I am currently running my Fascinate with PagePlus Cellular, which runs on the Verizon network.

I would imagine that as long as you have a data plan you should be able to download the update OTA.  Personally, if I could not get the update OTA, I would visit my carrier and have them take care of it.

Thanks for the reply Coastal, unfortunately for me, because the samsung fascinate is not an official PagePlus device PagePlus cannot give support. That's the downside with going with pageplus when you BYOD (Bring your own device) it's considered "As Is". But thanks again for trying to help.

Well after doing research I finally stumbled on to a beautiful place where someone actually took the time to give a very detailed instruction on how to both root and update to Froyo 2.2 official leak/bloated in one shot!!! (Hey I'm starting to sound like one of the guys now..lol) Anyways, for those who have not gotten the answers and the support, don't fret this LINK will lead you to the promise land without a hitch.
