This thread no longer valid now. Follow the link below for new rooting instruction and installing rom for Verizon Wireless Fascinate
http://www.samsungfascinateforum.com/samsung-fascinate-rooting/new-instruction-to-root-your-phone-cwmrecovery-and-install-rom-(080512)/

FOR VERIZON FASCINATE ONLY!!!  I WON'T BE RESPONSIBLE FOR BRICKING YOUR PHONE, SO TRY THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!!

Removals for Voodoo4 and older versions, please go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=804784

Voodoo Kernel cannot be flashed over...it needs to be disabled and removed with proper procedures.
Pre-requirements:
- installed dj05 modem
- installed clockworkmod recovery(i'm sure you have this by now)
- 11/29 nonvoodoo kernel inside your SD Card (http://deodexed.com/ROMManagerManifest/jt1134/novoodoo/1129_test_novoodoo_fascinate.zip)
- kernel of your choice inside your SD Card (Please do not use DI01 Kernel on DJ05 Rom): http://www.samsungfascinateforum.com/custom-roms/list-of-custom-dj05-kernels-for-verizon-fascinate/

1. Open CWM Recovery manually: Make sure USB is disconnected-> Turn off your phone-> While holding both volumes at the same time, press and release power button (if your phone restarts to the main screen, turn it off and repeat. And get it right next time).  This will lead to red recovery screen.

2. Your main goal is to ditch the red CWM recovery mode(red won't go away until you remove voodoo kernel) and to remove voodoo kernel.  First thing you need to do is to disable it.  Select voodoo-> disable lag fix-> allow system converstion(newer voodoo kernel doesn't have this option, so just proceed)-> click softkey menu button on the far left to get back to main menu-> restart your phone.  As your phone is restarting, you'll hear robotic voice telling you the voodoo kernel is disabling.  Once you get to main screen, turn off your phone again.  Open CWM recovery manually again.

3. Second thing you need to do is to ditch red CWM recovery mode by flashing 11/29 nonvoodoo kernel. Select install zip from sdcard-> choose from zip-> select 11/29 nonvoodoo file and install it-> reboot your phone.

4. Find voodoo folder on your sd card, and delete it.  Now your voodoo kernel is completely removed, and it's safe to flash over with new kernel.  Just make sure the current rom is compatible with your kernel and modem.

When I hold the volume buttons and press the power button all I get is the blue screen, no red. When I try and run the update.zip, it fails. I am trying to update to DJ05 and have been following the instructions from http://mobiletech.knguyentu.com/2010/12/fascinate-rom-dj05-and-beyond-all-you.html but they seen incomplete. I also don't understand how to remove voodoo as I never got the red screen. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

**UPDATE**  I stumbled onto the missing link, I needed to download and install the clockworkmod recovery. I thought I had it by simply downloading and installing clockworkmod rom manager from the market. Once I did this, and ran the update.zip, I got the green screen and everything worked as it should, I am now upgraded to DJ05 and everthing works great.... fascinating!!!

I never put voodoo on my phone so I didn't have to remove it?

Does this method also work with Voodoo 5 and DJ01?

Sorry, I just edited my original post to include DJ01. Will it work with that version as well?
