Hi,

Wallpapers on the Samsung S are very fine as long as you get them from some app, but if you want to use one of your own pictures or photos, things are different.

For some reason, when you select "use as wallpaper", the device first impose you to crop your picture. Then, it blows the selected part in order to make it fit exactly with the size of the screen, or screens, depending of how many you have. (I have 3).

The result is simply disastrous !

Why can't this device simply take the selected picture and paste it on the main screen, as a wallpaper ? The fact that it doesn't fill the entire space of the screen is not necessarily an inconvenient, on the contrary (I like a black bar at the top and the bottom of the screen, where widgets are more visible).

Has anyone overcome this problem or is there nothing to do about it ?

When you select a picture from the album to use as a background you get the cropped view of the image with the orange square selection.  If you press and hold on the orange border it gives you an option to resize and reposition it.  You can widen it up to include the entire picture (but can't change the aspect ratio of the background image).

I've had better success with pictures of a higher dimension than of the background image (960 wide by 800 high) I think due to the sub-pixel rendering.  Ie an image of several megapixels looks noticably better than the same image downconverted on a PC to 960x800.
