applications continue running - do not find any way to close an application - did not find it in manual - thks

DL task manager or advanced task killer on the marketplace. Put either as a widget. tapping then will kill any running app taking up memory and battery power. Btw, they are both free. Hope this helps.

so i run atk and it kills the apps - i think. I run atk again and the same apps are apparently running again. is that right? why don't these apps stay closed?

You can set it to kill apps every half hour or even when screen is off. I use every half hour. Just go into ATK settings and click on Auto Kill Frequency. I also have my Auto Kill Level set to Aggressive.

Task killers aren't needed on Android phones. Unlike a Blackberry, Android knows how to handle it's available memory and your phone won't slow down if you don't close out apps.
