Screen Not Powering Down During Charging

Hi all.  Need some help.

Just got two fascinates from verizon the other day.  When my wife charges her phone, the screen shuts off about 30 seconds after plugging it in.  It remains off while charging the phone.

On mine, the screen dims after about 30 seconds, but then brightens back up and does not shut off at all while on the charger.  It lights up a dark room.   I'm worring about screen burn because I charge it all night while sleeping. 

Called verizon and they said something to do with the backlight settings.  I cannot, for the life of me, find this setting anywhere on the phone.  There recommendation was to "bring it in and we can show you" because they were all busy with clients at the time.

I want to avoid another trip to the store.  Anybody know how to fix this?  Is it possible I have a bad phone with a firmware glitch or something?  (sorry, new to the whole smartphone thing)  I have compared every setting on my phone with my wife's phone and they both seem identical. 

I know you probably have figured this out by now considering it was 4 days ago but you can simply press the power button on the right side while the phone is plugged in and it should turn the screen off without powering down the phone.

To get to the brightness level and other such options, simply goto your settings, then to Sound & Display, then scroll down to the bottom and you will see the brightness tab along with others to adjust to your liking...hope this helps!
