I really do love this phone. Have had it for a week now and even went to a free Verizon phone class even though I'm pretty techno savvy. It is my first smartphone though I've had an Itouch for quite some time to use for emails, facebook and apps, etc.
My phone screen during a call goes off within 5 seconds. Can that time be lengthened? It's hard to hang up call in less than 5 seconds! Also, I wanted to switch mid call to the bluetooth and couldn't get the screen to stay on long enough to activiate bluetooth. Guess I need to leave bluetooth on but that of course drains the battery if I'm not on bluetooth.  Also, phone is not ringing, caller ID announced. I know I selected that somewhere but I'd like phone to ring. I guess it doesn't ring and announce the caller? Where do I go to change that back to letting phone ring?
Does anybody have the 2.2 update yet?

I am having the same problems! Although for me, it seems more like three seconds. The second I remove the phone from my ear, the screen locks, the screen then turns off before I can do anything.

Same problem with the screen going dark after only a few seconds.  For me this is a problem when I'm using my bluetooth head set.  If I'm talking without it just by moving the phone away from my ear brings the display back.

This is very annoying because I when you are on the phone with any automated system requesting "press 1 for English..., 5 for service..."

I really hope someone can shed some light on this

I want you to test something for me.
Disconnect your bluetooth headset from your phone.  Call your phone, and let me know if screen goes dark without dimming.

This happened to us on vacation.  Hubby did not have bluetooth with him.  When he was calling home to check voicemail he could not keep the screen on long enough to enter his 4 digit code.

Noticed this myself the other day on my phone (we both have a Fascinate) as well but my bluetooth may have been on (linked to car/onstar)

Does it dim first before screen turns off?

NO!  Screen is there - try to type pin for voicemail and it goes black in less than 1 second! It's a flash.  Not 3 or 4 seconds even.

The proximity sensor(it detects presence of near objects within the range of sensor)  is interfered or disabled somehow.  In many cases, the problem can be resolved by simply rebooting your phone.  Do you use any auto killing program? If you do, can you tell me which one you use?

both phones have  been rebooted - even tried battery pull - phone was on speaker mode outside - nothing blocking the sensor and sensor not disabled.

What I meant by 'interference' was not by physical factor.  I think automatic task killer is killing off your foreground apps(such as proximity sensor, sync feeds, etc, etc).  If this is not the case, then your proximity sensor is not working dued to hardware failure....you should have your phone exchanged.

I just got a 'kill app' program the other day - but this problem was going on before that.  And hubby has nothing like that on his phone at all and his is the more important one since he uses it for business.

For my knowledge though - what is the name of the program(s) that I need to make sure are still running?
What I got was a free one called Battery Improve.

I want you to go to applicationd-> task manager-> under 'package', write down every apps you downloaded on your phone.

I think you should take both of your phones back to Verizon Store and see what the problems are.  It might be a proximity sensor failure.

Happened to me also.  Very frustrating when it happens.  A reboot seems to have solved it for me hopefully.  I do use advanced task killer but it's not set to auto kill.
