Problems with screen orientation. help??

I've had my Samsung Fascinate about 2 months now and so far I LOVE it!  Yesterday morning out of the blue, the way the screen orientation changes automatically is somehow messed up.  When I hold the phone and rotate it counter-clockwise (so that the menu, home, back and search keys are on the right) the screen adjusts but displays upside down.   9 times out of 10 it won't readjust back to normal until I lock/unlock the phone.  

I also notice when I go in to the Gallery, the screen displays as if the phone is tilted when its not.  

My phone downloaded the new update last night and that seemed to fix the problem.  But now it is right back to being messed up.

HELP!!!  Any ideas before I call Verizon Wireless customer support?

Thanks herbb1 - unfortunately that didn't do the trick.   

Any other ideas?

it's probably your accelerometer that's malfunctioning.  factory reset it first......if problem still persists, it might be a hardware issue and you probably have to exchange it.
