VIDEO:
So I heard that I could put .Avi files, which I did.
There's a 3 situation in which I find myself in.(when I put .avi files)
1)The video is playing correctly with sound, no problem.
2)The video is playing correctly but there's no sound.
3)The video file is .AVI but doesn't play.(incorrect format,cannotplay,etc...)
But both are .AVI files.
How do I know which one can be played correctly and which one doesn't have sound, because on my computer its just written .AVI
Also does anyone know a converter I could use?
USB:
So while in USB mode you should get like an USB icon(I think) on the top left side right?
But I don't know why my USB icon became a RED TRIANGULAR EXCLAMATION DOT(!)
Why is it like that and how can I fix it?
For those who doesn't understand...Its like THIS
But its all red and has an exclamation dot.
Even though its like that, I can still transfer files...
(I do not have kies installed..)
Thanks

AVI FILES:  Will the AVI file play sound on a broad spectrum (most codecs) video player on your PC?  Like VLC. A free download from VideoLAN and much better than windows media player.

The video & sound can be in different formats, for example the sound can be MP3 or AC3 format. Most players recognise MP3 sound format.

I haven't tried an AC3 sound format video file on Samsung Fascinate at this stage, but perhaps this might be the problem.  Some research to do here.  Currently my Fascinate is playing all files i've uploaded, with the exception of one due to DRM.

VIDEO FILE CONVERSION:    Ummm, a tough one to answer, depending on your level of expertise.  Most often I use WinX DVD Ripper Platinum (have found this reliable), or the free version of Any Video Converter.

USB ISSUE:    Two tips for you.  The icon you have means the phone is NOT connected to your PC (assuming windows).  Make sure any firewall (software) is not blocking it.
I experienced some issues with KIES (an occasionally unstable program), then uninstalled it from my PC.  No USB connection issues since.  The main task I liked KIES for was managing the contacts, not the file system, that I can do through windows.
Am hesitant to reinstall KIES again.  Eyes Rolling

WinX DVD Ripper Platinum does a stella job of converting DVDs into a variety of formats, with variable controls.

However, if you already have a converted file format, and you want to change that into another format, then one of the most popular programs would be "Any Video Converter".

Did you try playing the AVI files in a PC program like VLC ?
Was VLC able to recognise the audio format of the file?
Can windows media player recognise the audio of the video file?
Just asking to do this test first, as it could be an issue with the video file itself.

In my humble opinion, if VLC can't play it, I'd never expect anything else like the Fascinate to play it.

Have uploaded a few more AVI files to my Galaxy, all working fine, haven't been able to replicate an audio or video problem, except those with digital rights management controls.

Trying a specific AC3 audio/video format right now - test your file in VLC first.

G'day again gDestinysama

Just finished testing a variety of avi file formats (audio/video/size) on the Galaxy, although not exhaustive, including AC3 audio format.  For this test I copied the files directly to the device (not sd card) using windows explorer (via USB cable).

Result = all worked fine.

However, for two formats I did receive the following message from the
Galaxy ....
The file <blah  Big Grin  blah  Big Grin  blah> has one or more properties outside of device limits. If possible, use a media program that can convert the file before copying it.  If you copy the file now, it will be stored on the device, but may not be presented in the device user interface. Do you wish to copy the file to the device anyway?  YES -- YEST TO ALL - NO - NO TO ALL - CANCEL.

Of course I answered YES and copied anyway, and they seemed to work fine.  I'm yet to identify what the two variables those files had which were different to the others. It certainly wasn't the audio type, I'm suspecting it was more to do with the image size. Need some shuteye now and will look at why this message is given at a later time.

I mostly use my Archos 7 HT for videos, it also uses the Android system (albeit version 1.5), and there is not much it can't play (good value for money device).

Having done this broad test, in summary, I'm getting more suspicious of your file.   Undecided

Weird because I use media classic to play files and it works fine on my computer, but when transfered to the galaxy, either it doesnt have sound or runs perfectly.

use mediainfo to check, search the forums on what formats supported and not.

mediacoder is a good encoder if necessary at all.

Ok, but how can I make the "Non-compatible" avi file, compatible for the galaxy?

Try using "Any Video Converter", many have found this to be a useful tool and it is free.
