I'm having big problems with voice dialing using "Nuance" which came with the phone.  Does anyone know of any other applications that might work better.
Nuance works a bit in a quiet room but when I’m in the car or walking outside it is impossible.
o   I said “Call”.  It responded “Did you say Send Text”
o   I said “Call Sara Winter” It said “Did you say Call Sara Lynch Work” then “Merrill Lynch Work”, then “Serrill Gerber”.  No matter how many times I said it, it couldn’t get the right contact.
o   I said “Call Judy Meyer”  It said “Did you say Call 510-922-4168?”

My old phone with Microsoft Voice Command would get the wrong contact maybe 1 or 2 times out of 10.  I thought that was a problem and figured I get a new phone with better voice recognition.  But my new fascinate is much much worse than the old one.  This is serious enough that I may have to return the Fascinate.  Other than that I love it.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I use Vlingo. It works awesome. You can use it to make phone calls, send text messages, open apps, and it will even read you your messages for when you are driving.

Hope it helps.

Thanks. I downloaded the app and it seems really nice.  I had one problem.
I can't seem to get Vlingo to call when I know the number not the name.  for example, when I say "Call 222-4444" Vlingo says "Who would you like to call?"
Is there a way to solve this?

Thanks

I just tried it on mine, and it worked...

Are you doing the area code as well?

Seems like it doesn’t work on “InCar”.  Works, but not totally hands free Tap & Speak.

Here is what I did in detail:
Click on “Vlingo”
Click on “InCar”
Vlingo says “Vlingo in car”
I say “Hey Vlingo”
Vlingo says “What would you like to do”
I said “Call 222-4848?
Vlingo says “Who would you like to call”

Then I started over:
Shut down Vlingo, to start over.
Click on “Vlingo”
Click on “Tap & Speak”
I said “Call 222-4848?
Vlingo displays the number on the screen, but does not dial.
I can tap on “222-4848” and then it will dial.

I agree with huckrorick, my experience with Nuance accuracy is the same. It comes up with things that are not even phonetically close to what I said  Angry. Did you find a way to replace Nuance with the Vlingo app? If so, could you post how you did that.

Thanks,
Jim

I tried several apps.  I was so frustrated with this that I finally returned my Fascinate.  I was sorry to do that because I liked a lot about the phone.  I had an old Samsung with Windows Mobile voice recognition.  I hated it before, but I was really happy to get it back.  It worked.  Before I thought 5% errors was bad.  After using the fascinate I was so relieved to get 95% right that I was completely happy.

I hope they fix this because I'd like to get something like the Fascinate, but voice dialing is fundamental for me and the Fascinate just didn't work.

Karma, I responded to another post from you re: this nuance voice dial. Guess I was too late. About Vlingo - do you have to actually put hands on to use it? I read the posts and the people that describe using their vlingo always mention "click on vlingo". When I use voice dial it is usually w/bluetooth headset, so I just touch my BT headset button and automatically get a "Please saya command", etc., etc. I don't want a program if I have to actually look for my phone and click on a program. That defeats the whole purpose of voice dial for me.

Anyone know?

And I hope that I am not hijacking the thread - I just saw that you discussed the option for using "vlingo" and was curious.

I tried the Vlingo app and it is better than the one that came on the phone.

Mortgageva - are you able to be completely hands free w/vlingo? As in I just push the button on my bluetooth headset and voice command replies "Say a command"? Without my having to touch the phone and activate anything in the process?
