Google Maps Street View How To?

I start the Maps app.  It displays a map of my current surroundings.  I touch and hold an arbitrary point on the map.  A little balloon opens which says "Loading address..." and, after one second, enlarges to show a street view thumbnail and a street address of the indicated location.  I tap on this balloon and the map is replaced by a screen offering a number of functions including Street View, represented by an icon of a little human figure with a triangle on its chest.
