I 've just transferred a couple of avi files to the phone and realized they couldnt be played.

Does it have something to do with the codec or i have missed something else ?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

AVI is not a codec, but a container format which can contain almost any codec.

The Fascinate can parse the AVI container, but if the contained codecs are not supported, it cannot play them. I transferred AVI files with XviD and H.264/AVC video streams, and MP3 and AC-3 audio streams to the phone, and they all play nicely. I also tried MP4 container files with MPEG-4 video streams and AAC audio streams, and they play nicely as well.

Codecs I found not to be supported: MPEG-2 video streams, WMA and LPCM (uncompressed) audio streams.

Container format I found not to be supported: MPEG-2 program streams

the audio format for both the files ( i ripped them off youtube) is mpeg layer 3.

you think this could be the reason? so any solution to it?

MP3 audio is supported, so I'd say it's the video codec. What's the video codec of your AVI files?
