So this seems to me that this is a rumor that will never die. I think we have been lost in the dust for the update. I checked my phone for new software hoping to see there was an update for froyo but, sadly there was not.

Has anyone else got the OTA update? (I know you can DL the leaked version, is this what we have to do to keep up with their lies of an update?)

I think they "dangle the carrot" in front of our faces so we don't switch phones. Does anyone else feel this way? I can't find anything confirming from Samsung or Verizon that this update was true.

If I didn't want flash I would of bought an iphone.

I think it definitely was a rumor and just a rumor.  Only our Epic 4G brothers got Froyo Officially.  They can get it via OTA in waves or they can download it directly manually from the Samsung official website.  I'm a bit upset, because I feel that Fascinate and Captivate owners have been forgotten.  I blame Verizon mainly though.

I think we should all email the hell out of both the companies till we get an answer. Im going as far as after this no more Samsungs. I'm gonna stick with the Motorola Droids. They seem to he taken good care of, besides them not getting 2.3 yet, and that's been rumored.

I wish there was something else we could do, it's not fair that Froyo is out on the Samsung Vibrant from Tmobile and Samsung Epic 4G on Sprint.  Those phones are also Galaxy S phones like our Fascinates.  I feel sorry for our Captivate Brethren as well on AT&T.  If you can find their Twitter or Facebook and file a complaint.  Maybe a complaint should be filed against Samsung USA via BBB (Better Business Bureau) this is quite ridiculous.

That is jacked up! I won't believe anything that Samsung or Verizon says about this update. Your better off putting the leaked version on your phone and calling it a day. Funny how the Fascinate peeps up north to us got the update but we have to wait is crazy. I think that email is a fake. It's funny how everyone claims we are getting Froyo for the Fascinate and it keeps getting pushed back. They will now say it will be march, then it will be the end of march, then they will say the beginning of may.

I'm calling it now we won't get froyo.

Samsung Still Testing Android 2.2 Froyo Update for Samsung Galaxy S Smartphones

Bertrand Vasquez | Jan 03, 2011 | Comments 73

Samsung Captivate Android 2.2 Froyo

There’s no doubt that Samsung Galaxy S smartphones such as the Samsung Fascinate on Verizon Wireless, Samsung Captivate on AT&T, Samsung Vibrant on T-Mobile, and Samsung Epic 4G on Sprint catapulted Samsung into the smartphone industry.

Unfortunately, those who own any of the aforementioned smartphones have been slapped with a slippery fish. That’s because Samsung Galaxy S smartphone owners are still waiting for the official Android 2.2 [Froyo] update, which was supposed to be released months ago. Samsung and the four major U.S. carriers have failed to deliver the Android 2.2 [Froyo] update more than once.

Samsung USA decided to notify customers via an official tweet on the progress of the Android 2.2 [Froyo] update for Samsung Galaxy S smartphones. Alas, things are not looking too well. The company indicates that they’re still running tests.

The tweet reads:

“We want Galaxy S owners to have simple/reliable upgrade. We r running tests due to complexity/unique functionality.”

No ETA has been provided.

What are your thoughts on the situation?

I think all of the customers that own one of these galaxy s phones should let their carriers know they eant a refund towards another 2.2 froyo phone

I agree with these people . this was an article back in January. There was some people saying F--- Samsung and stay with Motorola or HTC cause they actually update their phones.

I was going to wait until my phone warranty ran out until I rooted it. I may need to rethink that position.

People on this forum have been running Froyo for weeks now with almost no complaints so the OS is, if anything, fully functional. The rumors going around is the trouble lies with Verizon's bloatware, most of which I don't use.

I agree with pen13ska in that I won't be surprised if Froyo doesn't come out in March. Perhaps Samsung should turn this over to the gang at XDA, that bunch appears to be better codeslingers.

Totally agree with you. I lucked out (sort of) cause I traded for this phone so I have no warranty.  I may have to put the leaked version on as well. But I can't hope to think that the official release is going to be a Tad better in some way, shape, or form.

But with that said I think I might have to enjoy 2.2 with the rest. Anyone know how to do this from a Mac?

What Needs to happen is that samsung needs to be reported to the better business bureau. They have had ample amounts of time.  Froyo has been out in europe for a long time and the nexus one is getting gingerbread this week.  This leaves our phone which is newer and superior to the nexus one two patches behind.

If anyone needs to be reported it is samsung usa for their incompetence and delayed promises.  There is no excuse for this.

Well it looks like Samsung Captivate Users are getting Froyo tomorrow.  While Fascinate users are being left in the dust.  We are now officially the only Galaxy S users not getting Froyo until maybe next month.  I urge you all to file a complaint with the BBB (Better Business Bureau) against Samsung Electronics America.

Here is the link for the Samsung Captivate news grats to them: http://www.onlinesocialmedia.net/20110223/samsung-captivate-gets-android-2-2-froyo-announced-on-facebook/

This I can totally back you up on. I just got off the phone with Samsung and they said Epic 4g and Captivate are getting the 2.2 update (Captivate being tomorrow). The guy explained to me that the Fascinate will be getting the 2.2 he just doesn't know when and all other users of the fascinate (outside of the U.S) that got 2.2 were having problems. But they seem to be in the final testing stage and it will be out soon just don't know when he said it could be the end of this month or next month but didn't want to give a date since he could be wrong . I told the guy people want to file complaints and they ( Sumsung ) are pushing people to take the leaked version of 2.2, he claims not to do that cause it might not run well. I said alot of people are saying it runs great and people are going to do what they got to do.

I asked about 2.3 since nexus one is getting it soon and he said that he can't confirm about other phones getting gingerbread but the Nexus one is getting it.

So that's all I found out.

I think everyone needs to file a complaint with the BBB.

Yah Nexus One is getting Gingerbread starting today, the rollout has already started, this means that our relatively new device is now 2 patches behind an old device (Nexus One).

I already filed a complaint against Samsung Electronics America.  The reason why Fascinate owners are finishing last is because the other 3 Galaxy S models were more aggressive about wanting Froyo.  Fascinate owners for the most part have been quiet.  We need more furious Fascinate owners to speak up.  Make your voice be heard!!  Quit the passiveness.

While we are all complaining, we should not forget the reasons why we are demanding this update.  First of all, the current Android software is not only substandard, it is dangerous.  I never know when the Search function will work on my contact list, so I can't rely on the device in a car.  The alphabetical-by-first-name contact list is simply a joke, as if a Google system were using 1950's technology.  The problems with GPS make the device unreliable when trying to use it for directions in your vehicle.  Again, it is hit or miss when you step in your car to go somewhere.  Uncertainty means that you have to fool around with the device while trying to drive.  The lag time for voice recognition and otherwise unreliability again make the device very substandard.  As it stands now, this device is for geeks and programmers, god love them.  The average person is left with a Rubik's Cube. This device is certainly unworthy for any business use.  Any CTO would immediately disqualify it from use in a company.  The question becomes, "Will Froyo fix these basic problems and just make the device useful and competitive?"  The way that Samsung and Verizon have fumbled this basically impressive machine---I don't have any faith that Froyo will even catch the Fascinate up to the back of the pack.

Not that I would throw gasoline on a fire...OK, I would but that's not the point...
We can now change the rumors we are arguing over...

http://www.gizmocrunch.com/android/5590-samsung-galaxy-s-gingerbread-froyo-update

Forget Froyo, Gingerbread For Samsung Galaxy S Next Month?

The Android 2.2 Froyo update for the Samsung Galaxy S lineup has caused quite a lot of anxiety for US smartphone owners as the updates keep getting delayed, and even recently canceled within days of release (Sprint Samsung Epic 4G).
Samsung Vibrant, Epic 4G, Fascinate & Captivate Froyo update
To date, the Samsung Vibrant is the only US Galaxy S phone which has received the Froyo update. All Samsung Epic 4G and Samsung Captivate phones are expected to be updated by the end of this month (as long as carriers don't run into further issues) and the Samsung Fascinate should be just around the corner.
Samsung Galaxy S Android Gingerbread update in March?
However there is now news from Phandroid that states, "Samsung supposedly announced today at an event in Frankfurt that Android 2.3 Gingerbread would be headed to the Samsung Galaxy S I9000 this March."
The evidence isn't concrete however as non of our US compadres were at the event and the news update came from a German blogger attending the event.
Of course the update will be for the international version of the Galaxy S and US owners will need to wait a little longer as the carriers get their act together. Nevertheless, its reassuring to know that Samsung won't be neglecting the current Galaxy S lineup for the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S2 phones
